Nintendo cartridge Work In Progress

I've followed a few introduction courses on here and wanted to put my new learned skills to the test by recreating a true classic Nintendo cartrdige. I'm quite pleased with how these renders turned on. I might expand this project in between courses with the controller and actual console next.

Still have plenty to learn, especially about materials!

Thanks CGCookie for teaching me these awesome Blender skills ♥

That is looking very good and it hits the nostalgia part of the brain. If I was to nit pick at one thing, that would be the lighting, it feels under powered in some renders and in other it is creating some hard and very dark shadows. You can play around with lighting set ups, in some try letting an HDRI do all the work, try three point lighting setups and see how you can lit those very dark areas. You can look for product shot light setups for commercials and brand, they typically have that soft box white balanced light. I like how you included that fine grained texture, you can make that pop with the lighting as well. In any case, fine good job making that Mario cartridge, it's a cool idea that beginners can take up, I'll start suggesting it if you don't mind, for when people say they don't know what to do and don't have any idea what to practice with. 🤟🏼

Thanks Omar! I definitely need to learn more about lighting, so I really appreciate the feedback there. Those are some great tips!

Yeah the grainy texture was something I wanted but I need to learn so much more about materials to bring it to life. Again, good feedback, thanks!

That's a great idea. This is certainly a great project for fellow beginners. This cartridge is simple to understand, yet comes with some problem solving, usage of booleans, bevelling, array modifiers, the works. It really helped solidify what I have learned from the courses on the website so far.

      Cheers!

Wow, so many memories of seeing this. Incredible; thanks for sharing.

  • Nice! I have one of these on the shelf somewhere. Looks pretty good to me! I feel like the pebbly texture on the surface of the cart is a little bit stronger IRL, but all in all pretty darn good!

Thank you! I agree, I wanted to get the more rough texture somehow applied, but materials is still an area I need to learn in.
