This is my submission to the Pumpkin Carving Challenge.Β
I had a blast on this one! I also learned a whole lot of things that I have to work on... particularly I need to improve my sculpting workflow if I want to end up animating these guys (which I kinda do - I feel weird about submitting statics, but here we are).
So I'm leaving this challenge with a list of skills to work on next: multires sculpting, retopology, scene optimization for animation, maybe figuring out how to animate their faces with shape keys too... I have an idea on which courses to take to work on these, but if you have recommendations I'm all ears.
I definitely aim to watch Wayne's latest rigging course so I can bring these guys to life. Maybe next year I'll have video evidence of the murder π
This scene is actually based off the pumpkins my husband and I carved in real life a few years ago (the last photo is in front of our old house). Unfortunately we had a huge snow storm that night and not a lot of kids got to pass by, so I ate an obscene amount of candy π₯΄
Last, but not least, if I can enlist dostovel 's incredible skill on naming characters? I only have a name for the one who was murdered: Pumpkin Pie. π I almost named the piece "Making Pumpkin Pie" instead...Β
I ended up making a short animation with just Paolo to submit for my compositing course and was going to add here, but the plaform doesn't allow Youtube short links. Here it is if you are curious. https://youtube.com/shorts/k78lAqLPBcg?feature=share
I can't get over their expressions. They're so spot on.
Thanks Amber! It was a blast carving them both in real life and then again inside of Blender. I can also hear the sound of the little scared ghost *gasp* while he's running π
This is awesome nathitappan! It's an exquisite execution of its realworld inspiration. This was in my top 3 vote π
Thanks Kent! That means a lot!! I'm glad you liked it
WOW, really impressive 11/10
Wow! Thanks Leo! That made my day :)
Ok ok coming through. There are actually three pumpkin people here: The murderer, The scared and traumatized guy and The victim. The murderer is one of those big shot guys that woks on what could be considered the Wall Street of the pumpkin world. Drives a pumpkin Porsche, has the big pumpkin house and has pumpkin skeletons on his basement. His name is Paolo.
The traumatized pumpkin was a guests in Paolo's house, he was invited on a Friday night to play cards and drink pumpkin juice, which our traumatized person thought it was a joke. What pumpkin drinks pumpkin juice? His name is Patrick and he is going to need therapy if he survives.
And then the plot twist.... the victim is actually three victims. See how Paolo is standing on two pumpkin's? Yep, it would be like a human walking around with two bodies attached to his body, ala Weekend at Bernie's. Those three poor victims were Pablo (the one at the bottom, Paul (the one in the middle) and Parker (the one in his hand).
All the other pumpkin's in the back are Paolo's enabler's, his followers. They don't have faces because they are wearing pumpkin mask's. Which are basically pumpkin shapes that plug in the holes of the pumpkin's face. One only hopes Paolo eventually gets caught by the pumpkin police, the PUMPD.
I am laughing so hard! π
This is exactly why I asked for your insight Omar. I don't know where you get it from, but you are a master storyteller!
When you think it can't get any funnier you drop PUMPD in the end and it's the mic drop.
Amazing! Challenge accepted. Once I hone down my sculpting and rigging I'm bringing that story to life! It'll be fun.
Hah, yes! This is the content I come here for!
Also I second dostovel to do some naming.
Nice one Nathi, I look forward to seeing how you improve it!
Thanks Harris! I'm glad you liked it!
Muahahaha, that's awesome. My first thought was "Cannibalistic Pumpkins", don't ask me why. It's dark in my mind, hehe.
I mean, who can resist a little slice of pumpkin pie? π
Thanks Sascha!
Cool, (my translateur don't walk) alors je dis : supergreat!!
Pourquoi pas "les citrouilles de la mort", It is not bad too?
Thanks Claire! This made me exercise my incredibly poor french!
That could work! I'd even leave it in french so it sounds fancier like it could go in a museum or something π
Ahahaha! For a moment I thought you had placed the CG jack o'lanterns into a RL scene! Both the CG and RL jacks are AMAZING!
Thanks coyo! I appreciate that :)
Lol... I wish I had the skill to do that... one day maybe π
