I made it 11 years ago with Blender 2.5-something (or was it 2.6-something?), dumped it on Vimeo, and forgot about it. And here I am revisiting it now because I just realised that the particle fluid simulation and dynamic painting (by particles — I forgot the correct term for it) may have gone MIA in the triumphant march of geo nodes and suchlike in the current Blender 3.6.2.
Seriously: are these things still around? Anyone?
It's cool to revisit old stuff. Looks fine taking into account it was with such an old version. and I like how the particles splashes on the surface and it drips down, and you got a smoke sim going as well.
Yes, this splashing and dripping down is the dynamic painting I’m talking about: it could be set up in the older versions of Blender but I’m not sure it hasn’t died with the so-called Blender Internal render engine.
P.S. I’m an idiot: I needn’t have worried; it’s all right here, the dynamic painting https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/physics/dynamic_paint/introduction.html
and the particle fluid physics.

Oops, must prise my foot out of my mouth here.🤣 ‘When nothing else works, read the documentation,’ the old programmers say.
