I imagine it is using a magnetic field to counter the magnetic field that (probably) holds the plasma in place. If this is the case, it would be hovering very slightly above the stand. Great work though, I love it! :)
I was thinking the same thing not to mention the batteries it will consume just sitting there. ;) My thought was to have that end of the stand have a force field to support the lightsabre force field. Great fun no matter how you slice it. ;)

How is the stand holding the lightsabre blade? Don't lightsabres cut thru anything?
