This is a grass texture designed for use in Unity. The normal map was generated in Photoshop after the texture was complete. The workflow for this project was simple; first, I hand-painted four individual grass assets. Second, I repeatedly duplicated and applied artistic transform to create bundles of foliage from the four original assets. At this stage, we have a collection of unique foliage assets ready for use in 2D if that is something we were interested in, however, I wanted to create a seamless texture and so I was not finished yet. Next, following the process outlined in the gif, I created the seamless texture out of the foliage bunches I had built thus far. Finally, using Photoshop's internal normal map generator, I generated a normal map for the completed texture.

  • jgonzalez Hi, Jonathan! I created a super quick mock-up of how this texture was intended for use in my project. I added a screenshot to the bottom of this page so you could check it out!

The screenshot is not much to look at yet, I have been following along with your course "Game Programming Bootcamp" so you have me a little preoccupied with that while I am getting all of the proper mechanics in place.

Great job on that course, btw.

  • These look amazing. Also love the break down of how it was created. Do you have a scene where this was used in Unity? Could make for some fun grass prefabs.

  • @jlampel it always makes me smile when a staff member stops by to pass a compliment my way, thank you for your kind words!

great work on the VonnBots Vacation piece you did!
