To practice environment building I wanted to take a reference of some of the classic fairytale illustrations and try to recreate the mood in Blender. I took John Bauers classic illustration "Princess Tuvstarr gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn" and started working. Quickly I realized that to get the mood I have to make my own interpretation of the painting since I am working on different medium. It was a fun process where I got to sculpt, use photogrammetry objects, and use Botaniq assets to composite the image. This also taught me a lot about lighting which I am always making too dark. Hopefully this is moody yet bright enough to see. I also wanted to change the character in the picture. The forest I had created reminded me of the film Princess Mononoke so the forest spirit as a character was a clear choice.
I keep coming back to this image. Being a huge fan of fairy tales, Ghibli, and sort of eerie woods in general I just love it!
Thank you so much! Your comment means a lot to me! :)
I love this so much! Beautiful result
Thank you! :)
Looking awesome. I can feel the sadness in this image. Don't worry little guy, it's always darkest before dawn. Or in your case if you're a night ghost, it's always sunnier before nightfall.
:D Thanks Omar!
