  • What of this is original? Is it just the lighting or have you modelled and textured all this? In the middle row of windows there's a shadow that looks like a noose and I was trying to work out what else it could be. Then I read the title again it seems like this is deliberate.

Originally this was supposed to be just a texturing exercise in substance painter. Building, windows, road and side walk are modelled (very easy models) and textured in substance painter.
Cycle is just a random asset from blender kit ( I dirtied up the cycle just a little bit in substance), also those boxes on the left. These story elements were added later on.

Lighting is done with blender's new multi scattering sky texture.

So I saw this on Redit and only from that realised what I saw it as a vertical post on the stairs is actually a man. Maybe that's my problem but maybe that's also an area to improve.

Thanks for the feedback, will keep that in mind. Human figure should be more readable.

Turned out awesome. You had it great from the very beginning 🤙🏼
    Cool title as well.

  • I just had to look at some references to make sure my feeling on this was right... based on the low angle of the shadow and what feels like the coloring of the lighting on the wall, this feels like a sunrise or sunset time of day. I realize the bike is against the wall, so it's shadow would be sharper than the shadow of what is off camera, but it still feels a tad sharp to me for that low of an angle of a sunrise/sunset lighting, which is usually a bit weaker lighting than when the sun is up a bit higher. I guess I notice it because that's the strongest visual pull in the image -- the bike I mean, with the shadow of the staircase being a secondary eye rest. That shadow almost has me wondering what's going on off camera :D Also as I'm looking at references, I'm kind of wondering if maybe with the angle of the shadow being that low if the ighting should be a bit less overall and more orangey rather than purpleish red... but again, that could just be me overthinking things a bit.
