I chose to model this because it’s quite a difficult shape and I thought it would be a bit of a challenge. It did not disappoint!
I have also been wanting to experiment with a sculpt first work-flow, as I find this much easier and more intelligible than box modelling. I much prefer using the sculpting tools to get a basic shape and then refining that with retopology. I would have really struggled to do this without sculpting tools.
It’s not a total facsimile (I took a bit of artistic license), but I don’t think the discrepancies are obvious.
Sculpting and modelling were done in Blender (shout out to the excellent SpeedSculpt addon). Texturing was done in Substance Painter.
Hope you like it!
TBH your reference looks like a chinese ripoff... wait a minute! you did a pretty good job modeling this!
yyakoto Hi. I know what you mean! I used to hate retopology (still do sometimes). For this I just used Blender's inbuilt tools for retopo (snapping plus shrinkwrap). I do own Retopoflow which is a good add-on, especially when version 2.0 comes out. You might also want to look into automatic retopology solutions outside of Blender such as Instant Meshes (free) and also 3D Coat (paid - but great manual and automatic retopology) . These are a bit hit and miss, however, sometimes they work really well and retopology is done with one click!
Nice work! I wonder did you use any add-on for retopo? I hate retopo...that's just too much boring work, hope i can speed it up xD
noirecat vverylowpoly kkadian forrest-harless Thanks everyone, appreciate it.
