Bit of an experiment this one. Wanted to practice sculpting and my friend - for whatever reason - wanted a simple sculpt of a cartoon Weasel, so fate was then decided.
I wanted to add fur but I decided it'd be best to take this stuff one step at a time. As you can probably tell I still have no idea of anatomy or "proper" stylization, I just went with my gut on pretty much everything, but I definitely understand there needs to be more detail in certain areas like around the eyes. Was pretty fun working with multiple UV maps too, but oh boy I love when I retopo for 3 hours and then accidentally go in dyntopo without realizing it turned everything to tris and therefore wasted my time... ha...
Criticize away! I'm sure there's plenty to find and sculpting is a weak spot of mine so I only strive to improve. Also in case anyone asks: No, I have no idea why my friend wanted the word "Weasel" in the Cyberpunk 2077 font, but the customer's always right I guess.
pffsfs Haha, fair enough, just that until I started painting it kept looking like a female lion to me so I wondering if I was doing something wrong. I see the shininess too, admittedly with the tongue and the nose that was done intentionally to make them appear wet (guess I coulda done it better?) but yeah, the hair tuft looks funky like that. I appreciate what you and ssmurfmier1985 said about character though, one thing I was worried about was it looking boring or even creepy but it's nice to know I avoided that, spent like 3 hours on the eyes alone. Ta very much for the feedback!
ssmurfmier1985 Yeah you're definitely correct about the lighting, the render was something I just quickly threw together so I have a tendency to forget these things, cheers for the feedback!
will it go "Pop!!"?
Must be an aging weasel - I see white whiskers. lol. Anatomy? to a weasel? they've got the same anatomy of that of a ferret and they're basically snakes with fur, so I'd say you're good. lol. As Miranda said "the guy has character". I'd kill the hardness on the material as there appears to be to much specularity bouncing off him - like he's got plastic parts (tongue, nose, top of the head by the tuffs of hair}. This weasel's got a future, truly
I like this one! Love the cartoony style, especially the tongue hanging out of his mouth. This guy has character. Don't know much about sculpting yet do don't have any advice on that, but feedback wise I would suggest to give him a back light / rim light to make him stand out from the background, I think that would really make him 'pop' :-) honestly, good work Aaron!
