Calvin - Realistic CG Human Final

3 loves

My first human sculpture! I finished the CG Cookie CG Human Course by the end of summer 2022. I wasn't sure how to share my results here until now. I learned a ton from this and hope to improve on my next character so any feedback on how to improve realism would be greatly appreciated!

Excellent work, JJham3D! So many glorious details captured in your portrait. Each render has a crispness to it which does your details justice. Very impressive 👏👏

My only constructive note is that the eye and lip shapes would benefit from another pass; not details but macro shapes. All the anatomy is present but a little muddled, as if a perfect clay sculpture was handled aggressively by a little brother, mushing those areas around.

It's pretty minor considering how well you executed everything. I think approaching your next portrait sculpt with fresh eyes will be all you need to nail the macro shapes of the eye/lip anatomy 👌

      Thank you!

Finally some constructive feedback! Yes, the eyes and lips were the most difficult. I had a ton of blender bugs with the multires modifier when sculpting the eyes. I probably touched them up 80 separate times because it kept spiking vertices everywhere. It would be fine, then I would press save and the multi res data would corrupt on the eyes. Once the error stopped, I figured I'd quit touching the eyes. I messed up the basic anatomy from the start so I figured it was best to wrap this up and move on. This bug added at least 5 weeks to my progress :(

So your instincts are correct. My first renders were awful anatomically. I thought I was going to have to restart. A friend of mine helped me salvage the sculpture and I can't believe how far we took it. He went from looking like joke of Buzz lightyear to a somewhat impressive "realistic" human.
I can't thank you enough! And I hope you'll get to see my future characters :)

Super great results Jordan. The only little thing that stood out to me was the mustache, it's like its combed to the sides instead of down and looks funny. But that's just being nitpicky, the guy may be on to a new style of mustache there. Awesome job.
