The idea is based off of a true event from a Swiss physicist (Auguste Piccard), inventor and explorer, known for his record-breaking hot air balloon flights. He went up and broke records in 1931, documenting his findings. He ascended 10 miles high, which is double that of Mount Everest. A few months later, he published what he saw in a magazine and said, "It seemed a flat disk with an upturned edge."
