Astra 300 Final

This is a Spanish WWII era pistol manufactured by Unceta y Compania. This particular Astra 300 is chambered in 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP) and has a German service acceptance stamp. Recreating real world firearms in 3D is one of the things I enjoy the most. Especially those weapons that have a somewhat unique appearance. I wanted to really push the quality on this project and see what I could achieve. Quite happy with the results. Artstation Link: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/b1oJk

All Substance Painter. With the exception of a few alphas created in Photoshop. The tile generator is a part of Painter's default shelf.

  • ccarousel Thanks for the answer. So you did use Substance Designer to create the pattern?

I learned the basics of Painter through Allegorithmic's learning videos. Other tutorials that I found helpful were Tim Bergholz's blade tutorial, and Jonathan Lampel's Blender & Substance Texturing Workflow. Other than that, a lot of what I have learned is from just working in Painter and challenging myself to learn new things on every project I do.

I did the checkering on the grips with the tile generator procedural. There are a few procedurals that I could have used but I found the tile generator gave me the most options. That being said, getting all those settings dialed in just right took a lot of trial and error.

Excellent work, this looks very accurate to the real thing!

  • Hey Timothy, this looks awesome. I have a question and I wonder if you can help me out. I'm new to Substance Painter and I want to archieve a square pattern for a knife I finished modeling. It looks very similar to the pattern you have on your handle. Can you give me some tips about how you learned Substance and how you created this pattern? It would mean a lot.
