When we started CG Cookie, I knew that learning Blender was a long game. It takes time, practice, and a whole lot of patience (and let’s be honest, maybe a few rage-quits along the way).
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned after years of teaching 3D artists, it’s that the real magic isn’t just in the Blender tutorials, it’s in the connections we make along the way.
People can choose to learn Blender anywhere. There are countless awesome tutorials, courses, and platforms available. However, those who choose CG Cookie tend to stay.
Why?
Connection is our superpower. The relationships built here are what make learning feel less like an uphill battle and more like a shared adventure, kind of like having a party of fellow travelers on the long road to learn Blender. Think LOTR but different. 🧙♂️
Why a Blender Learning Community Matters
It’s easy to get stuck when learning something as complex as Blender.
That’s where a strong community makes all the difference. Beyond instructor help, we have a dedicated group of Instructor Assistants, a team of experienced artists who peer-review all content, provide expert guidance, and help ensure you get the support you need while learning Blender.
And yes, they’re actual paid humans, not bots trained to give vague encouragement like, “Keep going, you’re doing great!”
We’ve invested in real experts so you get real answers, real support, and real growth.
Here are some of the ways I see meaningful interactions happening every day:
- Peer-to-Peer Support – Our Blender forums, Discord and course discussions are filled with artists helping each other out, sharing solutions, and offering encouragement.
-
Instructor Feedback – Getting direct insights from experienced instructors speeds up progress and helps refine skills in a way that tutorials alone can’t. This is done through exercise submissions on courses throughout our library.
-
Live Events & Streams – There’s something special about learning in real-time alongside others, asking questions, and seeing things click at the moment.
- Blender Cannon - Live Stream on Youtube
- Liquid Movement inside a bottle - Live Stream on Youtube
-
Collaboration & Career Growth – I’ve seen friendships, collaborations, and even professional opportunities come from connections made at CG Cookie. (See success stories below)
-
Blender Buddy Initiative – One of the newest things I’ve started is the Blender Buddy Initiative. It pairs members together so they can support each other, share their progress, and hold each other accountable on their learning journey.

The Impact of a Supportive Blender Community
Learning in isolation can be frustrating. But when you have others cheering you on, answering your questions, and sharing their own experiences, it becomes easier to push through challenges and stay motivated.
That’s what makes CG Cookie different, other than a goofy name?
I typically don’t talk much about CG Cookie itself, we prefer to let our work speak for itself. But if I’ve learned anything from our community, it’s that being too humble means some people don’t know what we do.
So I’m making an effort to share more about the impact CG Cookie has had on artists around the world.
We’ve helped people turn hobbies into careers, build lifelong friendships, and gain confidence in their skills. We’re here to make Blender less intimidating and maybe even...dare I say...fun?

Be Well - Wes Burke
I have been trying and A.D.D.ing Blender for a long time. Not real A.D.D. so no worries, but CG Cookie being available and improved lets me slowly inch forward without wondering where to start all over again. I feel like Frosty the Snowman in that old cartoon and maybe I'll get good enough in Blender with CG Cookie's stability, to one day to make a similar animated scene in Blender. I thank the tutors and staff; they've put so much effort into their schooling site.
The bookmark, lists, quizzes, and questions that have been integrated into the tutorials and site are indispensable for one that is so interruptedly trying to progress further to pick back up where they left off. That is underrated, we can't keep it all in our heads.
