Keep Me Where the Light Is
This is the third lighting match stream where the idea is to learn about appealing lighting through imitation (links to previous streams below). As artists we all should have an inspiration folder of artwork that sharpens us. The goal with these exercises is to pick an image with impressive lighting, analyze it, and recreate it.
This time we will look at a striking style by Julien Kaspar:
What You Will Learn
- Previously we've used Cycles but this time we're using the cool new kid on the block, Eevee.
- Lamp-only rendering (no HDRI's)
- Volumetric fog accents
- Procedural sparks
Many members of the CGC Blender Community have participated in the forum thread about the same topic. Take a look at the examples there and check out the previous streams:

The denoising blows my mind. Almost into the "too good to be true" realm. But I haven't tested it either. I've been all Eevee for several months. Love me some Cycles but just haven't needed it in a while..
Nice! I’m curious to see those in action
Yes, I'd like to treat the gravestone sculpt as a testing ground for 2.81's new tools. Hoping they release it before then but even as beta or whatever I plan to use the tools
*heared
Oh yeah heated about that dough.. I’m not a cycles person so haven’t looked to hard at that news 😛
The only thing I know about 2.81 is the wicked sick denoising
Haven’t tested 2.81 yet to be honest.. btw Will you use 2.81 in the Halloween sculpt, with all the new features I’ve been seeing on Twitter?
What do we think of the new file browser in 2.81?
