Lesson 00: Introduction

Introduction to TURNAROUND - A Blender Class on making a Character Turnaround Sheet.

Welcome to TURNAROUND - A course all about creating a single piece of concept art using Blender's Grease Pencil. The subject is LUNA, a character I designed for Wayne Dixon's course RIG.

This course is divided into three chapters.

Chapter 1: Revision and Expansion of Concept
Chapter 2: Creating the Base Turnaround
Chapter 3: Creating Overlays and Finishing for Renders

This course assumes a working knowledge of Blender Basics and Grease Pencil.

If you're new to Grease Pencil, I highly recommend first taking my course DRAW! It is entirely free, and will give you a solid grounding for using Grease Pencil.

While you can do CONCEPT first, it is not necessary, as a Concept file will be supplied at the start.

By the end of this course, you should have a good understanding of:

  • How to revise and redraw a piece of concept art efficiently
  • How to set a correct scale for your turnaround
  • How to draft a base turnaround complete with separate limbs
  • How to create more than one variant over keyframes
  • How to set up a composite to render out specific parts of the total composition

While you can follow the steps and use the working files provided, I highly encourage you to apply the knowledge and methods demonstrated here to your own concepts.
