What you will learn in this online Blender class

Chapter 1

Rigid Body Physics

Students explore the fundamental principles of rigid body physics, learning how to simulate realistic interactions between objects under various conditions. The chapter covers different rigid body types, collision responses, collision shape, and scene properties, culminating in a final project that synthesizes all concepts. Rigid Body Constraints will also be covered in this Chapter.

Chapter 2

Soft Body Physics

This chapter introduces soft body dynamics, focusing on the unique properties and behaviors of soft body objects. From jelly to basketballs, there’s many applications for soft body physics that can be utilized. Students learn how to create and manipulate soft bodies in simulations, leading to a project that showcases their understanding of soft body physics.

Chapter 3

Cloth Physics

Students delve into cloth physics, starting with simple simulations and progressing to more advanced settings. From simply dropping a cloth onto an object, to pinning the corners of a cloth to drag it, this chapter covers it all! The chapter emphasizes the creation of realistic cloth interactions, with a final project that integrates all the techniques learned.

Chapter 4

Fluid, Smoke, Fire Physics

This chapter covers the setup and refinement of fluid, smoke, and fire simulations. Students learn how to create dynamic and realistic interactions for these elements, with a focus on obstacles, settings, and baking processes. We will utilize the Quick-Effects options within Blender to quickly setup our domain, flow, and simulation collections. The chapter concludes with comprehensive projects for fluid and smoke/fire simulations.

Chapter 5

Particle Systems

Students explore the creation and manipulation of particle systems, learning about instancing, obstacles, and advanced behaviors like Boids. The chapter provides the tools to create complex particle dynamics, culminating in a final project that demonstrates mastery of particle systems.

Chapter 6

Dynamic Paint

This chapter introduces dynamic paint, covering canvas and brush settings, and various paint types like DISPLACE, PAINT, and WEIGHT. All Dynamic Paint types will be covered in full detail, demonstrating many effects that are possible with this simulation type. Students learn how to use dynamic paint for creating interactive simulations, with a final project that showcases their skills.

Chapter 7

Force Fields

Students learn how to use force fields to influence object behaviors in simulations. The chapter covers various force field types and their applications, from basic forces to complex effects like turbulence and vortexes. Students will learn how force fields can affect not only particle systems, but also rigid body physics as well. A final project synthesizes these concepts in dynamic simulations.

Chapter 8

Tips, Tricks & Troubleshooting

This chapter provides practical tips for enhancing physics simulations, including managing surface thickness, applying modifiers, keyframing force fields, and using the Cell Fracture add-on. Basically any problem you could run into during your simulations is covered! Students gain valuable troubleshooting skills to optimize and refine their simulation projects. At the very end, you’ll be given a final project to truly test your skills!

Let's start creating realistic simulations!
