CORE | Fundamentals of Animation in Blender

Instructor:
Phil O

Let's learn to make things move in Blender.

In this course, we will dive deep into all the tools you need to get things moving in Blender.

Animation can be challenging, especially when tackling advanced topics like character animation or motion graphics. You don’t want to be stuck and frustrated, trying to figure out how to set a keyframe or use the graph editor to change your interpolation, just when you’re starting to explore concepts like squash and stretch.

My goal with this course is to set a foundation to learn from and get you up and running as quickly and efficiently as possible, helping you overcome the technical hurdles that Blender might present.

By the end, you will feel confident moving forward into the more advanced topics of animation and when you encounter challenges, they’ll be more about refining your animation rather than struggling with the software.

Let's get started!

What you will learn in this Blender Class

Chapter 2

Framerates and Timeline

To kick off a successful animation, it's key to understand frame rates and how they affect the smoothness and realism of your work. Once you've got that down, you'll dive into Blender's timeline to set keyframes and control movement, laying the groundwork for fluid animations.

Chapter 3

Let's move things

We’re stepping up by learning how to move, rotate, and scale objects in both world and local space, starting with manipulators and then mastering Blender's hotkeys to boost your workflow. To wrap things up, you'll learn how to render and export your animations, so you can share your creations with the world.

Chapter 4

Objects and Armatures

To create complex animations, it's crucial to understand the roles of objects and armaturesβ€”while objects are the basics, armatures act as the skeleton for more advanced movements like character animation. Then, you'll dive into the graph editor, Blender's second animation editor, to fine-tune your keyframes and perfect the timing and flow of your animations.

Chapter 5

Animation Data

We dive into animation data in Blender, showing how it can be shared and tweaked across different objects and scenes to save time and boost creativity. Then, we explore the Dope Sheet and Action Editor for advanced keyframe control before wrapping up with editing your shots in Blender’s Video Sequence Editor (VSE) and exporting your final animation.

Really helpful in being able to navigate the animation sections in Blender. No fillers either.

I’ve been using Blender for quite a while, but this animation course still managed to teach me so much. The lessons were easy to follow, packed with great information, and well-paced. Even as an experienced user, I found myself picking up new techniques and gaining a deeper understanding of animation workflows. Highly recommended for anyone looking to level up their Blender skills!

Direct and simple! I was expecting much more building in the end but it's literally the basic overview of Blender animation with a plus! Thank you Phil! I think I am now equipped to move up the next level!

Great introduction to the topic of animation. Phil gives a clear overview of all the basic elements needed to get a good start at animation. A good preparation for more advanced animation courses and projects.

This course is not for beginners, it covers very tedious items. Half the course is bascially common sense you can pick up from watching general tutorials free on Youtube... The remaining other half has its uses to give you an overview but you can easily work it out yourself. The fundamental series has its use but for absolute beginners....

The animation course is one of the best I’ve ever taken. Informative and engaging. I almost feel sad that it turned out to be so short... or at least it seemed that way to me.

Although this is the first course where I felt like I already know a lot of the things mentioned before it's good to have it communicated in a clear and structured way.

Good entry point for animation IMO.

A very informative course which covers some important basic knowledge that no-one else has explained.
