    CREATE CONCEPT ART IN BLENDER!

    Welcome to CONCEPT - A course all about creating a single piece of concept art using Blender's Grease Pencil. The subject is LUNA, a character I designed for Wayne Dixon's course RIG.

    This course assumes a working knowledge of Blender Basics and Grease Pencil. If you're new to Grease Pencil, I highly recommend checking out DRAW! 

    It is entirely free, and will teach you everything you'll need to know for CONCEPT and more.

    The general knowledge you will gain from this course should be largely software agnostic, but where necessary, specific techniques and work methods will be demonstrated within Blender v4.2LTS

    What you will learn

    By the end of this course, you should have a good understanding of:

    • How to interpret a brief
    • The basics of color theory
    • Where to find inspiration for research
    • How to thumbnail
    • How to explore ideas visually
    • How to discuss development with a client
    • How to produce a polished piece

    While you can follow the steps and use the working files provided, I highly encourage you to apply the knowledge and methods demonstrated here to your own concepts.

    Chapter 1

    Ideation

    A good brief leads to focused research to help shape an idea. In this chapter, you'll get insight into how I go about getting those ideas down and begin the process.

    Chapter 2

    Color & Texture

    Gain a solid understanding - or brush up on - color theory. Get some handy tips on developing your own range of palettes. Learn how to leverage on Blender's Texture painting tools to create your own bespoke patterns.

    Chapter 3

    Sketching

    Take your rough ideas and begin the process of thumbnailing. Create a refined sketch and color with a chosen palette. Learn to use references for poses, and sketch out a range of expressions for your character.

    Chapter 4

    Final Delivery

    Create a final polished concept, then lay out your work for client delivery and approval
