Instructor:
Wayne Dixon

An consumable weekend project to build your rigging confidence.ย

Welcome to BALL - A short project that is designed to expand your understanding of rigging.ย  Although this is a stand alone project you will be able to maximise your learning if you have already completed the Fundamentals of Rigging.ย  This project is an opportunity to apply what you have already learnt and also add a few new concepts into your understanding.

What you will learn

By the end of this project, you should have a good understanding of:

  • How to add squash and stretch to a ball
  • Adding Widget Shapes with the Bone Widget Add-on
  • Using geometry nodes for geometry swapping
  • Basic use of drivers
  • How to link in your character for animation

The starting files as well as the Bone Widget Add-on are included with the project download. This course was recorded using Blender 4.2 - LTS

Squash and stretch

Flexibility

A good ball rig needs squash and stretch controls as well as a way to independently adjust the rotation (or spin) of the geometry.

Geometry swapping

Geometry Nodes

Gain an understanding ofย  how to use Geometry Nodes to swap the geometry of the ball.

Simple UI

Python script

You will learn how to connect your rig to the pre-made python script that will show some simple controls for animation.

I've been trying to figure out how you switched the balls in your UI. Thanks for pulling back the curtain and show us.ย
