Curious about max bounces.

In this video you open up the bounces and say "16 is enough" (diffuse bounces are set to 16, but 'total' is set to 8"

Does total not mean what i think it means in blender?

There's a glossy and transparent material in the scene too, so arent they each getting at least one bounce each?

Does that come from the "total" budget?

Thanks :)

Nope, you're totally right - looks like I just missed increasing it at the same time. Rookie mistake. Thanks for the catch!

Total means the total maximum bounds for Diffuse, Glossy and Transmission rays, so if the Total is set to 8, then each of those three is the maximum of 8 and the value it is set to.

Transparent and Volumetric rays do not take the Total maximum into account!

I can recommend enabling Tooltips in your Preferences (if I'm not mistaken they are off by default nowadays):

    They are often very helpful!

The effort you put into this course is inspiring. I was ranting and raving to anyone who would listen this week.

    Good job.
