Finished - Hints of Power

"The shadows show the soul of a being. The outer appearance is rarely one's true face."

I am beyond happy with this, it took me about 3 weeks to do. I hand modeled or sculpted everything, except the textures on the walls, floor, chair and table. I know it is not perfect (the darker colors hide a lot of flaws lol) but I am thrilled with how it looks, the story it tells, and the atmosphere it creates.

@jlampel I used some of your lighting tricks for the shadows of the flames. Thanks for the positivity@theluthier

That's a lot of work! Nicely done on completing an entire environment plus a character to tell a story. That's a really big step in your 3D journey. Congrats 👏👏

Thanks!! I was having an issue with getting the shadows of the flames right, soft shadows made them all go away, and hard shadows was almost a bit too hard lol. I was tweaking all the settings but do you know a way to make them look a bit more transparent?

that is a goodly amount of work... looks good!!

Congratulations! You should be! That feeling is a crucial facet to art / computer graphics / blender for me. And this is only the beginning of your journey :)

I'm very impressed by the scope of work you've managed to achieve in such a short time: High-res, high-detailed sculpting, textures, lighting and rendering. Thanks for sharing and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

    Thank you so much!

That means a lot! I am delving into animation principles and camera work for the next week or two then I am going to be back to creating scenes, sculpting etc. I want to have a small animated short done by the end of October. :) Girl's gotta to have goals to get the work.

How to make the candle flames more transparent? I'm not sure that would look better than what you've got, but you could mix the emission shader with a transparent shader.

  • Kat Loveland(chaoslillith) replied

Not the candles, but the shadows that are coming up onto the table from the ground, they were supposed to be more like how flames from a fireplace leave shadows, but I think they are a bit too dark. Glad you like the candles though :)   - Update...upon further googling of shadows, I think it looks pretty good lol. Flames would make dark shadows if there was an object like wood or something in front of it. That was the effect I was going for. I think if I had sculpted the light blocking object a bit better it would look more like a flame leaping up and less like a spindly monster lol. It worked, just not perfect.
