Setup workflow !

Hi @jlampel

So far, I love this course and I'm impressed in how many new things I've learned (or even how much I had forgotten).

As in all CGC tuts, things are explained in a clear, structured and understandable way that makes it so much easier to assimilate.

Despite those compliments, there is one thing  I still have difficulties understanding: Your setup workflow.

And more specifically the way you setup the overall brightness of the scene. I do understand that exposure doesn't mater when I'm only working with a sun or an HDRi. But when combined with other light-sources in the scene, I don't understand when to fiddle with the power of the light or when to adjust the exposure.

I hope you understand what's blocking me and also hope you could help me clarify it pls.

    Hey Yves!

I often fiddle with the power of the light if there's only one light source (like you mentioned) or if I don't really care about mimicking believable values. For example, in the portrait lesson, I do tweak the exposure a bit at first but am not overly concerned about realistic light values so after that I adjust the power for each light because it's more convenient to work with.

You'll see a similar pattern in the outdoor scene as well - I set the main light, adjust the exposure based on that, and then tweak the powers for the secondary lights from there. That way we're at least in the right ballpark of values but there's still enough flexibility to allow for creativity.

    Does that help clarify?

    It does, thanks. :)
