Is there a easy way to get settings from an older version of blender into the newer version, or am I doomed to try and remember every setting and addon each time?
The very first time you open a new version of Blender, you get a special splashscreen, where you can tell it to use the settings from the earlier version.
When you miss that opportunity, you can dive into your filesystem and copy the Preferences (which is just a .Blend file) from the old version into the new version (where that is depends on your operating system...)
For instance here are my Blender configuration files for my different versions:
And in each of these lives a Startup file and a Userpreferences file:
So each version can have the same or different Preferences and Startup files...

I do appreciate your explaining the file copying process. Seems to make sense. Now off to corrupt my filing system. lol
