Dear CGC community,
Greetings! I just started to learn Blender recently and I am using it for work project. Before I proceed to dive deep into the courses, I am in urgent need of modeling this robot which I got stuck at the "thigh" part. Image attached below:
I think I need to use boolean cut for trimming the left but I have no idea on how to deform the mesh into this semi curvy shape at the right and top. Help and guidance is much much appreciated!
Hi hiddensushi, I wouldn't use Booleans for this myself. I'd use a Subsurf Modifier to get those smooth curves and with edge loops control the roundness of the edges.
Model the right side straight and then use Proportional editing to make it round.
Here I started with half a Cylinder for the top and extruded it down.
Maybe something like this:
I have some more questions. Do I need to set the cylinder vertices to 8 since I will use the subsurf modifier? By half a cylinder do you mean going to edit mode and deleting half of it? Lastly when should I add the subsurf modifier? Thanks!
Will it be something like this? I added a cylinder with vertices 8, then I went into edit mode to delete half the faces and added the subsurf modifier and one loop cut:
Hi hiddensushi,
You need to rotate the Cylinder 90° before deleting the bottom half.
Something like this:
I'm sorry I'd encountered this problem, it seemed the loop cut wouldn't apply to this side of the faces :(
Again thank you for your time!
