Keyframes not showing up in dope sheet when object is copied

I did an animation in one file and tried to both copy and paste the object, and append the objects with the animation key frames,  into a new file. The animation comes over, but nothing is displayed in the dope sheet with the new file. Is there a reason the dope sheet is displaying blank in the new file?

If you appended the data, you will still need to apply it to the objects in your new file.

You will need to select each object and then select the animation data block it should use in the action editor.

Another way to try to make it easier is to append the entire scene to your new file, that way the animation data will already be applied in your new scene.  Although it really is just a copy of the old file so if you had made changes to the scene in the new version, that won't propogate.

    Hope that helps Joey.

Hi Wayne, Thanks or explaining it but I might totally be misunderstanding. I just tried selecting the animation data block but didn't see anything to select in the data block. I also tried to append the  scene but nothing showed up as being copied over in the the new file.  Animated data I uploaded the file I am trying to copy from. I'm using 2.79b.
