Collaborations

Looking forward to spending some time getting used to the new version of Blender and seeing what marvelous creations everyone posts.

@theluthier The center of the blade was painted with the Voronoi texture added to the brush. then I went back over each shape with a highlight and shadow line to add a false 3D look as if the metal had blistered with corrosion and patina. I accented the cracks and rust spots the same way with a highlights and shadows. Tedious, but effective, I think.

@theluthier isn’t that the voronoi texture he mentioned? Looks like that kind of pattern.

ullreym lol, we posted almost at the same time 😉

ssmurfmier1985 Exactly, the Voronoi was the base pattern. Then I added some distress and chaos to the splotches. The shader network loved the pattern and I was able to isolate the center of the blade with a separate material like in the live stream. I then tinkered with the colors, metalness, and roughness values for the outer blade and inner part. It has been a fun lesson. I even added Freestyle lines to one of the renders.

ullreym liking the look of the freestyle lines, it pops out from the background. Awesome :)

ullreym How cool is this! The shader turned out beautifully and the freestyle lines is the cherry on top. Really nice job, Matthew 👏

I'm going to go ahead and give this an A+ for week 3.

ullreym Late to the party.  Dude, you put a lot of effort into those textures.  That sword looks lit.  Good work!

@theluthier Thank you for all the encouragement and putting this lesson together. “Shadering“ has been an area where I need more practice. This has been a lot of fun!
