BC1-1908 Homework - Aiwaguore

Collaborations

Hey Guys,

Extreme Beginner here, just really hard to submit something, so I went with a sign.

Currently facing some issues, I can't see my model on my modeling workspace, don't know how to get it back, hence the model was printed in the UV editing workspace

    Hi Aiwaguore. Welcome.

Your problem is a complete mystery to me, because the 3D Viewport should be the same in the modelling workspace as in the UV editing workspace.

Any way, if you want to submit this as homework, you should write 'Homework Submission Week 1' above the image!

Hello, and welcome!  Sorry to hear about the wonkiness of jumping into a 3D modeling software, but I had the same behavior when I first started modeling.  You do something you think is normal, but the program behaves unexpectedly.  That's okay!  Don't let that spook you.  You'll get it in no time.

Good effort on the sign.  Maybe you could bevel some of the edges to help break up the "perfect" CG feel, like on the posts holding the sign.  Keep pushing!

spikeyxxx  Thanks I kept hitting ctrl+h and alt +h to hide and unhide in order to work on the different objects and then I couldn't see it again. I guess I would have to start it all over again. I actually didn't see your message on time so I didn't make it a submission. I was also kind of intimidated  at the submissions I saw.

silentheart00 thanks, I guess I would take your advice and keep going. thanks a lot.

Welcome to the class aabaz! Your sign looks great. For being an extreme beginner, you should be proud of your model. I only have 2 notes to offer:

    • Fix faceting by smoothing normals and hardening specific edges. There's one spot in particular that has a lot of faceting:
I recommend following this part of the treasure chest course that shows how to smooth these facets while maintaining hard edges where desired.
    • Vertical posts are plain. It would be great if you added bevels, wood splits, and un-straightened the edges to match the horizontal planks.

Overall this is great work for being a beginner! It's a B+ in my book. Keep it up! 👍

As for the UI weirdness, you could try "resetting" you Blender UI by:

    • Saving your file
    • Loading a new (blank) blender scene with File > New > General
    • Then open the scene you saved but unchecking the "Load UI" option in the bottom left of the file browser:

The idea is to load your scene within a fresh default Blender UI.

Thanks A lot,  it worked, Now I can see my model in my layout and modeling workspaces. I'll see what I can do about the issues you raised about the faceting and also the plainness of the post as suggested by you and silentheart00 .
