BC1-1908 Homework - silentheart00

Collaborations

Hmm.... what to make, what to make....

I asked someone from my DND group if there were any cool weapons they would like to see as a 3D model, and someone suggested a wrist mounted crossbow.  Why not?

If not, then I was thinking of making something for Kilyn.

    Week 1 Submission

Holy moley!  I get pulled away for a couple of days for family things and there are a lot of people participating!  Awesome!  I have a whole day of catching up to do.

Here is my crossbow.  I did the best I could with all the family events and stuff, but man, I really wanted to actually complete something for once.  It's just really frustrating to be like, "I'm doing this." and then life is like, "Nope."  There are just a couple of details to settle and it is done on the modeling front. Maybe I can squeeze it in tomorrow...

Disclaimer: I will unfortunately be doing things all day on Tuesday's stream, so I can't make it =[  But I'll catch you all later!

It's definitely an armbrust. And for me the model looks nice and clean and there are model deatails in the right places (not too much and not too little). Very nice done in my opinion. I like it.
PS:I also have had a big family event this weekend and we have been preparing it for months;)
So I know it is not easy to find the time and contentrate on homeworks, too
    .
    Very well done.

silentheart00 I think you did the right thing, imagine if this post reads "I had family events but aahh screw them, they know where they can shove it, I have a crossbow to make".

  • silentheart00 replied

mmonaloren Thank you!  Those darn family events, huh?  But hey, I'm happy to get at least this far.

  • silentheart00 replied

dostovel Honestly, I am rather ambivalent at best towards this particular side of the family, but I also understand just because someone is related to someone else doesn't mean I should treat them the same.  We are all individuals, no?

    silentheart00 That's a cool wrist device :D I wish it were real.

  • Jack (jack07) replied

silentheart00 I like how it's turning out! Be sure to have the straps well adjusted before firing :P

  • silentheart00 replied

@drgnclw Thanks!  With the new wonders of woodworking, you too can create this device!  Just have a block of wood and a knife ready!  Presto!  In as little as 100 man hours, this device can be yours!  Order today!

Or, y'know, 3D print it or something lol.

  • silentheart00 replied

    jack07 But of course!

silentheart00 It is looking great seeing as how you had other priorities to attend to. My one thought is perhaps having the ability to trigger the bow from the wrist action (like the spiderman "thwip!" wrist gesture). It's your model though haha. Just trying to picture how it gets triggered to release the bolt (crossbow arrow).

  • silentheart00 replied

blanchsb That's what the front plate is in front of the bow, the trigger.  The concept was it would shoot a bolt as you punched to deal extra damage.  There was a video on how a crossbow worked that showed the inner mechanisms but I can't seem to find it.  Luckily, I copied it down and altered the design to work with a punch instead.  Good suggestion, though.

  • Shawn Blanch(blanchsb) replied

silentheart00 Ahhhhh. Got it. My bad. That is an interesting use for the cross bow. I thought it was designed for more range, but I can see how that works.

  • Kent Trammell replied

silentheart00 Sorry to hear life got in the way this week. That kind of thing happens a lot doesn't it. On top of that the time you're spending helping as a VA is likely taking away from the project itself..

Still you've made great progress! The shapes are reading well - certainly like a believable crossbow. The only thing lacking is some detail, as you pointed out, like dents and dings (assuming you want the aged look).

I feel like a jerk for this, but the stone-cold grader in me says B+

There are just a couple of details to settle and it is done on the modeling front

If you add those details this week I'll add a + to week 2's grade 👌

  • silentheart00 replied

    @theluthier That's tempting.  I better get rolling!

  • silentheart00 replied

Oh holy moley, I am quite far behind.  It's been a crazy week, and I'm doing my best to catch up, not only on my model, but also on this Volunteer Assistant thing.  Phew!  There are quite a bit of you, and that is really awesome to see!  Let's do our best!

  • Zsolt Cseh(csehz) replied

silentheart00 Silent what can say is that this model is awesome, in spite of any of your difficulties with the time. Very interesting construction there visually and even wooden elements are included now.

In quality you are around at the top and surely being not far behind at all

  • Omar Domenech(dostovel) replied

silentheart00 I like how it looks like a spaceship from that angle. It is looking cool.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

silentheart00 It's amazing what small details can do, those dents have really brought this thing to life, I'm really looking forward to the textured version!
