Used to be a member reconsidering joining up again

Used to use blender years ago just reopened it with the release of 2.8.

I used to have a cgcookie account and it helped me so much. Id like  to get another account as im a blender artist looking to start in game development. I am just wondering if unreal or unity is a better fit for me. It seems through my research unity has more things it cannot do without purchasing more plugins.  I really miss cgcookie it was fantastic.

The community troubleshooting support is what I really appreciated but now it seems i can access that for free.

Hey John, UE vs Unity is often a question people ask when they first get started with game development. They both have their pros and cons but something I consistently see is that people who purely want to work on the visual side of things go with UE as it tends to be more "artist friendly" and has a lot of great stuff to use right out of the box without much effort.

Unity has a lot of the same features, but tends to be a bit more difficult to achieve a similar effect just due to how Unity is setup. Typically programmers and those who want more control over various aspect of their game go with Unity. Unity supports C# and UE uses C++.

One complaint about UE members switching over to Unity is that UE tends to rely too much on their blueprint system (visual scripting) which can be limiting. Unity doesn't utilize visual scripting by default so you'll be programming most everything by hand unless you decide to purchase a visual scripting system.

Once you gain enough experience in game dev it really just comes down to personal preference, just like a 3d program. They have similar tools and some areas where they may excel than in others, but they're just tools.
