Late, but here I am at my first CGC challenge and my first forum post! :)
I am very happy that i had find time at the weekend, and I hope to finish it in time.
Topic is a siege weapon for conquer. It should be a combination of crossbow and catapult.
Block out is finished now its time for detailing :)
I also have to add a seat :)
O.K.. I try to be active on my model and do some texturing and solve some proportion issues.
Today I play with the shaders..... I really have to improve my shading skills, but at the moment I am fine with it :)
Next step is to add ropes, nails and mechanism parts.
Today I was very active, but lost in detail :) Was much fun to model.
cruento The rope looks great, Philip! Love the knot!
But the wood shader.....
Maybe this can help:
https://www.cyn-prod.com/projects/wood.php
Made for Cycles, but also works in Eevee.
Just see if you can use it;)
For the rest. this is very exciting.
cruento nice model Phillip, I like it! I agree with Spikey that the wood shaders need a bit of love, but the rope turned out great :)
spikeyxxx thanks for the link! I looked some procedural wood shaders before but they are very complex. I have to study the blend modes and how to mix nodes the right way. I like to experiment with the nodes but if there is not enought knowledge, it takes to long :)
spikeyxxx, ssmurfmier1985 I am happy that you like the rope, you two push my motivation up again :)
cruento i think you need also separate the tooths from the main body of wood so then you can adjust the texture accordingly how it would be in real world, if you would cut the wood like that in real life, the tooths would not last for long. so having them in their own objects, and then maybe add wooden bolt through them to indicate their reinforcement on the place maybe.
good stuff otherwise!
louhikarme yes you are right! I do the cutout with boolean, but separate object's with array modifier aren't more work and the benefit to have influence at the texture will surely help a lot. I try to test all this great Ideas today! Thank you a lot!
I tried to include all the nice tips in my work.
And here it is! The final result!
Rendered with SheepIt. 5k samples (just for fun;)
very fast and very nice :)
