WIP [CGC CHALLENGE #2] VEHICLES - CIKU

Contests and Challenges

I'm entering my first ever CGC challenge. I have never modelled a vehicle or modelled anything as complex as this so another first on this end too. My main goal is to learn more (as I did in Jonathan's 30 day modelling challenge) and get more comfortable and good at modelling. I am going to keep it fairly simple, I don't want to chew more than I can swallow so I'm going for something simple.  I really do hope that I can finish this in the allotted time.

A vehicle placed in a n outdoor scene? Like a junk car? Maybe... Anyway, time will tell.

Comments and corrections are highly welcome.

Hey cool! I was hoping you would join in the fun, since you enjoyed Gonzos 30 days challenge 😊 fun project you choose, good luck and have fun!

Not the vehicle model in the attachment per se but  the general idea behind it: junk, rust etc.

    cciku-karugi yeah that’s what I thought 😉 I love rusty old stuff!!

    ssmurfmier1985 Thank you Miranda.

The texturing and lighting part are going to be a real challenge for me, hehe... They need to work well to give off the 'rusty old stuff' look (as you have said). Oh boy, here we go...

I started on this tonight... I had to familiarise myself with a couple of stuff as this is the first complex project I have ever done. Here's a screenshot (wireframe mode) of my volkswagen (camper).

cciku-karugi I think I have a lot of unnecessary vertices... I will try to clean up some of them.

I am learning a very dear lesson, a good reference image is everything... Take 5 lol

  • smurfmier1985 replied

cciku-karugi yes, that's the most important lesson! from here on out everything will be better ;-)

So the first reference images I posted of the VW camper were out of proportion in some areas, therefore I did away with it. I started afresh, last week, see new reference photos. They too have an issue but I'm not starting again, I'll just wing it in some areas.

I have to cheat! Hahaha!!! The mesh I posted a couple of days ago was too busy and the vertices were not aligned well enough for me to do a good job in refining my mesh. So I started over and did it the "Jonathan Williamson" way, this would have saved me a couple of days in which to do the texturing and lighting. As of now, I only have a day left to do all that. My vehicle doesn't have everything that would be deemed a necessary part of a vehicle but I do not have time to do all that. I just modelled the pieces that I felt would be hard to hide and would be quite noticeable that they are not present (hence the cheating comment lol).
