BC4-1810 Homework, Christina McKay

Collaborations

This is the first time I attend a class here, my first topic in the forum and most of all the first time I've seriously used Blender's material system. Or tried to. By now I like modelling in Blender much more than in Cinema4D, but I have to admit: Blender's node system and me will probably never be friends :-)
And I gave myself a hard time because I forgot to copy the recommended courses to my laptop in all the stress before my vacation. Yesterday on the plane I was so happy that it was possible to charge the laptop via the on-board power supply. Guaranteed pastime during the twelve-hour flight. Only to find out that I don't have the videos on my laptop. *headdesk*
My seat neighbor gave me some strange looks when I tried to give the toy the look of plastic and grumbled about it because it didn't work. After my satellite connection was finally active this morning, I first took a look at the shading course and followed the instructions. At least now it looks like plastic.

Week 1 Part 2

And here ist Part 2 of the Homework. The night scene was quite difficult for me, and I am not satisfied with the bedside lamps. Outside the workshop I will certainly work on it, but at the moment it is as it is.

@theluthier:  Sorry, unfortunately I am hours late with part 2. I hope that it can be considered nevertheless.

    Hey, welcome to the club!  Despite the problems, you got something done.  Your toy truck looks pretty good to me.  Good work.

    silentheart00 Thank you. I just watched the Lighting fundamentals-course and finished the daylight scene.  The scene is now rendering and I hope, my laptop can handle it without crashing.  It is 6pm here so I have a few hours left to finish the homework.

    Wow, a lot of firsts. Very glad to have you part of the class, Christina!

    Blender's node system and me will probably never be friends :-)

    If you and Blender's node editor aren't friends by the end of this class, I will have failed.

    Your toy truck *totally* reads like plastic. Really nice job.

    chrismckay Sounds good.

    @theluthier Thank you.

    No, you won't have failed. It's just that  I've been used to C4D's material system for almost 20 years, which is much more intuitive.
    I modell in Blender, but normally do the rest in C4D (along with Substance Painter). So it is a challenge for me to use the node system, and the same goes for lighting and rendering.  I deliberately uninstalled C4D from my laptop after the class on tuesday, so I wouldn't be tempted to use it ;-)

    The next three weeks while I'm away from home, I have no other choice than use Blender for all of the stuff. We will see how the friendship between the node system and me thrives in this period. :D

    Wow really nicely done the toy looks amazing. It looks like a great plastic toy. Keep it up

  • Christina McKay(chrismckay) replied

    yyukinoh1989 Thank you. I have to learn a lot, the node system is so complex. But I keep on trying :-)

  • yukino hatake(yukinoh1989) replied

    chrismckay i totally understand that . i also still have to practice a lot with nodes to learn how to make my own fully tree without having to check a tutorial . but then again there are so manny options so its normal :)

    You finished off the homework - Excellent! Really nice work with the bedroom scenes. Your daytime scene has lovely gradients from high value to low value as well as warm light to cool light. And your nighttime scene reads very believably. One possible *tiny* critique is the moon light is perhaps touch too bright. But that's me really digging for something to critique.

    Overall great work. An easy A in my book for the week 👍

  • Christina McKay(chrismckay) replied

    @theluthier Thank you.

    A good point with the moonlight. I'll repeat that for myself anyway, because I'm not satisfied with the bedside lamps, then I'll follow your advice. Thank you very much!
