BC4-1810 Homework, Matthew Sheffield

Collaborations

This is the first time I have been in a class or posted homework, so I'm not sure if I am doing it right.

The truck seemed like it was kind of straightforward.  I tried to change the wood texture but could not get the grain to raise well.

The bedroom scene started out pretty awful - I could not get environment to work - even using Cycles (I have the Mac Eevee problem with backgrounds).  I was using 2.8, so decided to go back to 2.79 and it worked much better for both day and night.  I think 2.8 hates me ... :)

mmatthew1917 I'm impressed with your vehicle S&L. It's a very appealing tropical vibe. Also the reflections on the stony street look great. Even though it appears like you're using a simple plane, which I often suggest not letting the edge end abruptly, it kinda works with your first render. As if the stony street is a rich person's "infinity" driveway to his summer vacation home. Well now that I'm looking at it that way it's even working for the second image too. Anyhoo, it's an A for me on the vehicle.

Your light match appears to be quite similarly lit but it's also hard to discern completely due to the different contexts of the models. The rocky ball barely reflective and it's textured which skews the analysis of light color. For future light matches I suggest that you use a model of similar context as the source to make the analysis easier and comparison more clear. Still it looks close. It's a B from me 👌

Here are my renderings for interior lighting.  I used HDRI for environment and IES lighting for the interiors.

The white room was a combination lighting project and interior render.  The stock image is the lighting match for that room.

Thank you !  :). I modeled the icons and the lamps in the top image as well as the hummingbird feeder outside.  The furniture I pulled in - I did not have time to do more :(

mmatthew1917 Very nice work this week! You clearly put a lot of effort in and I like both of your scenes. Everything looks pretty realistic imo: Furniture looks awesome, brick walls believable, lighting appealing too (cool IES and warm early morning vibe).

The biggest note I have is that the focus of both renders seems to be the brick walls themselves. Almost like the primary focus of both scenes was to explore brick wall texturing and shading. So it looks more like a technical study more than a showpiece arch viz render. In the end I keep having the urge to tilt the camera down and to the side to see the rest of the room. If there was a keystone painting on the wall that would be one thing, but the white wall has nothing on it and the red brick wall has very small paintings on it.

All things considered it's a B+ in my book.
