BC1-1808 Homework, Marc De Baer

Collaborations

Homework 4 : second render.

Homework 4 : not half of what I had in mind, but this is what I have so far.

Homework 3, chapter 2 : cube, sphere and cone, -ish.  The tablet I ordered arrived (a Wacom Intuos), never used one before and it takes some practise as well.

Homework 3, chapter 1 : my struggle with Melvin.

Homework 2, an approximation of something that's on my desk.  Quickly ran into the limits of my modelling skills, where the vertices were pulling me, instead of the other way around.

This is a second attempt at Homework 1, but since it uses some modifiers, I would like to place it here.

Another take at the same model.  Actually my first Eevee render.

This was my first attempt, posted previously in a different thread by mistake.

Welcome to the class!  And don't worry about hitting a wall with modeling; we all do at some point, and the best thing to do is to keep practicing.

Good work so far.  I really like the Week 1 homework.  I can't explain why, just it really tickles me.  I wonder if you changed the background color to maybe a blue if that would really pop everything else.

mmfdeba I'm loving your abstract theme! They're interesting to look at and ponder how they were created. Your phonebooth is good too. You've earned an A in my book 👍

PS: Would you mind combining this thread with your original thread? My intention was that there would be one homework thread per class participant that contained all homework assignments. Though I probably didn't explain that clearly..my fault.

  • Marc De Baer(mfdeba) replied

@theluthier No, my mistake with the new thread.  I am still getting familiar with the class and forum format, and I was not sure it would get picked up by you if I added to the original thread.

I would like to comment though on the high level of engagement of all participants in the class - teacher, volunteers and students  -  which is really motivating.

  • Marc De Baer(mfdeba) replied

silentheart00 Thanks for the suggestion.  For now, I only used a default matcap and planned to revisit the model later for shading and lighting, which is one of those things I still need to learn a lot about.

mmfdeba Anytime someone comments on a thread, it'll pull it to the top, plus anytime you look at a thread and there are new comments later, it'll show you how many comments you missed next to the thread title.  Don't worry, your thread won't get buried =]

Ah, okay.  Sounds like you got a plan.  Looking forward to your work!

I like the new abstract one that's rendered with eevee! Don't know why but somehow makes me smile 😊

  • Kent Trammell replied

mmfdeba No worries at all! I'm checking on all threads regularly. As silentheart00 mentioned, it's pretty easy to see which threads have new replies that I haven't seen yet.

I would like to comment though on the high level of engagement of all participants in the class - teacher, volunteers and students  -  which is really motivating.

Very glad to hear that! It's certainly a communal thing. While a teacher can commit to engaging with a class, it's goes to a whole new level when volunteers and students commit as well. This community amazes me frankly.

Melvin ain't an easy fellow, good work!

ssmurfmier1985 Thanks for the encouragement Miranda.  Sculpting is hard, for me anyway.  Being relatively new to Blender an 3D I did not touch it before because it scared me a bit, but now I'm glad I tried it.

  • Aaron Rudderham(thecabbagedetective) replied

mmfdeba Hey if you're new to 3D and that's your first attempt you did a damn good job. I first attempted Melvin after like 3 months of experience and it wasn't as good as that by a long shot so good on ya, keep it up.

  • silentheart00 replied

Yeah, a tablet takes some getting used to, but once you do, drawing and sculpting are more natural.  Good work on your sculpts, especially for someone who hasn't done it before.  Primitives are good, Melvin is good.  His eyes are maybe a bit small in relation to the rest of the body, but good work.

  • Kent Trammell replied

mmfdeba Visually, I can't tell that Melvin was a struggle. Looks pretty great, certainly when considering you're brand new to a pen + tablet. Also your primitives made my faves list this week. Awesome job this week, Marc: A+
