    Week 1 Homework Submission

Week 1 was a nightmare. Even though I was able to spend anywhere from 30 - 70 minutes inside Blender, I wasn't able to really get focused on the assignment until Saturday afternoon, then worked on it all night. (It's 2:15am currently)

Anyways, I'm not quite sure how this forum software works, so let's see if this works.

There are some screencaps from inside Blender. And here is a render using Cycles:

On to the next one, which I hope real life will let me be for a while so I can work on homework more. :-)

If you wanna see my complete mess of a .blend file, feel free to check it out.

ccurtisrhoads I love the Suzanne's on sticks, and I like the colors too. Well done!

  • Scott McClellan(pffsfs) replied

Thank you for giving us a close up of the sticks. I was scratching my head wondering why you might have pins lining the path, then BAM, it's Suzanne on a stick - kinda like a headhunter scene. Love it.

OH WE OH.... follow the yel... well, so it's not yellow... follow the monkey lined road. lol

I like all this suzanne on their stick ^^
It looks an ancient road made by a civilisation or something like this ^^
Maybe this temple is here to pray suzanne? Who knows ? x)
    Nice work anyway ;)

Nice!  Something to think about: everything is a bit blue, and maybe that was your intention, but I feel like if you had the building as a warm color to contrast against all the blue, it would be a nice focal point.  Just something to think about.

nice work i love the building . the suzanne's heads looks like a sign of beware this area :D

ccurtisrhoads no worries, quite familiar feeling :D Sometimes that is natural anyway, that feeling the progress and learning, but somehow it would not like to manifest in the submission. Great to see your commitment

You'd be very surprised how even a somewhat simple assignment like this can be a vampire for your time, but even with that pressure you did good! I especially like the Suzanne heads, though thinking about it that's pretty creepy haha.

ccurtisrhoads Ancient suzanne civilization? :) cool one.

yyukinoh1989 yeah I don't think I want to meet whoever lives in that castle... :)

ccurtisrhoads You posted homework perfectly, Curtis 👌 And you crushed the homework assignment! I enjoy the Taj Mahal - Suzanne Mahal if you will. You've earned an A from me.

I can relate to the feeling of committing time to a project but inspiration and focus lags behind. Kudos for powering through and making it happen 👊

    Week 2 Homework

A day late (and maybe a dollar short)... but I got it done!

Decided to model the ship from an animation that I want to work on. I don't think it's actually finished (is anything ever really finished?), but here it is!

As before, the final .blend file is here: Week 2 Homework .blend

Not the best, but it is what it is.

ccurtisrhoads The model and topology looks very clean. Good job

ccurtisrhoads You got some nice details in there, well done 👍🏻

ccurtisrhoads Looking good, Curtis! Makes me think of a UFO with a star trek aesthetic. I dig it. Nice work - an A in my book 👍

  • silentheart00 replied

Hey, you got something done.  Good job!  Maybe not everything you wanted, but you got something done.  You can always work on it after the class, too.

  • Curtis Rhoads(curtisrhoads) replied

LOOK!!!!! I'm doing something early!!!!   :-D

So, for the first time actually using sculpt for something other than just messing around, I don't think they came out too bad. The cone does look like a Hersey's Kiss, which I was munching on while working on this exercise. Perhaps some subliminal message?!?

I couldn't seem to get things to sharpen up like I wanted, but I'm sure that will come with practice or it won't... If anyone has any tips for sharpening up things like edges, let me know.

Now, forward onto Melvin!!! Let's see how badly I can mangle him!   :-)

ccurtisrhoads looks like one of those altered carbon space car

ccurtisrhoads Nice Start. Sharpening edges is done mostly with an inverted crease brush or the pinch tool. I would recommend the pinch tool for the point of the cone, drag it a bit higher and pinch pinch pinch. Keep doing that until its sharp as you want it. For the bottom of the cone you first need to use the crease brush while holding ctrl (inverted) until you get the edge in the place you want. However, once the edge is in place use the pinch brush and brush along the edge until its sharper.

The difference between the two brushes is that the crease brush pushes or pulls (inverted) the vertices in and out in addition to pulling them closer together. The pinch brush simply pulls all vertices under the brush closer together without affecting the surface level.
