sculpt homework of the sphere cube and circle.
I might have to redo my Melvin sculpt urgh sculpting is hard
Week 3:
melvin final:
@theluthier β’Thanks Kent can l Submit this as a submission for the modeling with primitives exercise by Jonathan Lampel
damn well i missed the deadline. Ooof
This week was a total mess thanks to uni but i was able to at least make something this week introducing SugarCandyMountain was inspired by a book i was reading (props to who ever can knows what book sugar candy mountain came from) .
I don't know how to add this to the description without deleting the last post soo i'll just type in the page
sickelo Wow, that's a lot of sugar candy! Looking colorful an happy π I was thinking about Willy Wonka and the movie Sugar Rush when I saw it, but that's probably not what inspired you. Curious to know!
ssmurfmier1985 it was a book by name of Animal Farm everyone had to read it back in middle school and sugar Candy Mountain was basically the animals version of heaven. Its pretty interesting read about animals taking back the farm from pesky humans , but its a bit more gitty than it sounds since its an allegorical novella based on the Russian revolution so reader beware.
ssmurfmier1985 thanks idk why but i have seem to have currently developed a sugar theme
sickelo Sound cool! I'll have to look that up some time, we didn't have that one on the curriculum in the Netherlands π
@sickelo What a cool submission! Makes this song play in my head π I love the level of detail you've achieved with the sprinkles and various candy pieces. The colors too... A+ in my book.
i havent finished melvin yet but would like to know what you guys think about Melvin so far
sickelo
hey not too bad but maybe try to place the teeth more on the inside of the mouth( now they stick onto his lips)
but already a good start. also maybe move the leg on the right a lil bit more to the left(not sure but i believe it stick out a bit too far)
also the primitives are nicely done. maybe smooth the flat sides of the cube a bit could help but they do look good :).
sculpting sure isnt easy but its a lot of fun i think.
sickelo Really good progress so far. I agree with Yukino's critique about the teeth appearing to grow out of his lips as opposed to inside his mouth. Simply building up the lip shape in front of his teeth would help.
Also yes to the length of this legs. I know the art cheats his leg length a bit. While it works in the 2D art, the cheat tends not to work in 3D. I recommend deviating a little from the art and lengthening the right leg a little while shrinking the knee bend in the left leg. That should be enough to give the impression of the legs being the same length.
Good job on the primitives as well. Sure it could use some polishing off of the bumps, but overall you've fulfilled the exercise. It's an A from me this week!
sickelo I agree with the critiques so far. The beauty shot is nice, but remember to take the time to look at it from all angles. It's 3D; it needs to look good from all angles.
okay second try complete its still kinda lumpy but a bit better also i failed at that thumb
sickelo Beautiful render and treatment of the subject material. Almost makes my cavities hurt.
@theluthier I think it is awesome that you have that song in your head. :-D I really liked the animated interpretation of "The Big Rock Candy Mountain."
sickelo Definitely an improvement over your first attempt! I recommend after 2-3 months you come back to this exercise and try it agian, to see what you've learnt in that time. It can be eye-opening for us.
