Hi, I know what blender can do and how long will take to make it. But I think maybe there is something new free software released make this easer to do. I'm trying to make 3D world similar to SIMS and Lego games. Streets, hills and houses.
Any advice ?
I would check out this course on modular design and maybe run a search for “modular” on Sketchfab to get some ideas. For that type of game, modularity will save you tons of time.
Building these worlds isn't really that easy. Usually people either have them procedurally generated or they manually put everything together. In either case you're putting the work in somewhere. The course linked on the Modular Game Asset creation and this one on Level Design with Modular Assets are a great look into how you could create your own worlds.
From the Unity side there are level design tools that can improve your workflow like this one called Octave3D. I've never personally used it but I have heard good things about it. Along with that, if you want to quickly block out a level you could use ProBuilder which is now part of Unity. You can use it to create basic meshes to create buildings, block off areas and pathways and even texture them.
In the future I'd like to cover some more level design fundamentals once we have more building game assets to use.
pprocyonlotor , the two free videos from tutorial explain a lot for me ^-^. Thank you John.
jgonzalez, Thank you for this information. Yes, those programs are good for designing. I need to try them. Thank you again.
