Hello everyone,
I just wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself as I've just signed up and it would be nice to get to know people.
My name is Tobias and I am a 30 year old software engineer from Germany. 6 years ago I moved to the UK and now live in the north east of England in Newcastle.
I have a passion for building software and recently started to familiarise myself with Unity and Blender. It's exciting to see what people can achieve with these tools and it's amazing to see how friendly and supportive the community is. Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
Due to my background as a software engineer I've started to address some of the pain points I had using Blender. Some exercises on this page require you to render complex scenes which can take a long time to render. I've written my own render farm which is available at https://keyframez.com/ to address this problem. I understand that similar tools already exist to address these issues but building my own allowed me to learn a bit more about the internals of Blender. I am constantly adding features and hopefully this platform will grow beyond just a simple render farm. I have some ambitious plans to extend the functionality including project management, issue tracking, collaboration, etc..
Combing my passion for building software and this new creative hobby is very exciting and I am enjoying every minute of it.
I am looking forward to hear some of your thoughts and get to know you a bit better.
Tobias
Hello Tobias, welcome! Glad to have you here. Always great to see someone get really interested in using Blender and Unity. What brought you to CGCookie? What are you looking to create (besides the render farm)?
Hey Jonathan,
thanks for your reply. I joined CG Cookie to learn the fundamentals and a few more advanced topics from professionals in that specific area. It's difficult to learn something new all by yourself and not accidentally developing bad habits. The course on this platform make a great job in highlighting what's important and why.
I was hoping to be able to create a very short cartoon-ish animation within the next 12-24 months and I would love to build the tools along the way to make collaboration and project management easier for distributed teams.
Welcome! That sounds cool.
It looks like Blender is adding real time rendering for PBS: https://cgcookie.com/articles/get-ready-for-eevee-blender-s-new-real-time-rendering-engine
I'm not sure if that addresses what you are referring to or not, but you might find it interesting.
Thank you for mentioning Eevee, I mean to look at it but haven't got around to do it yet.
