Hey,
I've just finished Jonathan's retopology course and was wondering if there's any other(perhaps better) way to tackle spherical places on the model(not using grid fill) so that they don't appear as flat(especially in certain lighting situations). I've attached two screenshots hopefully showing what I mean. It was an excellent course otherwise. On to the next! :)
I also have a question, if I were wanting to learn sculpting and retopology by myself...
Could I?
I've got zero previous experience with it, and I feel it is necessity.
Hey Tomaz, I think I see what's up. When you use the grid fill, it won't automatically snap to the high poly surface even if you have snapping turned on. You'll need to be in a transform mode for it to snap, so select that area and hit G, then immediately hit enter to confirm without actually moving anything. Hope that helps!
gigacg You sure can! Here's a great place to start: https://cgcookie.com/flow/modeling-in-blender
If you want to learn in a group, feel free to join one of Kent's classes on the live event page and check in on the corresponding post pinned to the top of the forum.
Yeah, problem is I'm not a citizen, so I was asking that question from a penniless standpoint...
JJonathan Lampel I thought this might be the case at first but I've done it and it's still the same. The orb in the second picture was also already a part of a model that course provided, so I guess it's probably ok like that? Anyways was just wondering if there's another way.
As far as questions about learning go, I can just say that I'm very happy with cg cookie subscription so far and think it's well worth it! It's really great how it's structured and you get to hear the mindset and problem solving that's happening "behind the scenes" so you can learn not only what to do but also why.
