Hi Folks!
So I used Retopoloflow for my snail and at the points where I stopped and started again the mesh becomes a different color.
Do I need to worry about this? I'd like to texture, rig and animate it later.
Also: Do you think my Mesh is too dense? It's my first retopology!
1.Yeah it is a problem, you lower area which is dark the whole area means those faces are back face which mean their faces look inward to the mesh.
Which is wrong and not going to work at all,all you need to do is select those faces which are back faces and press Ctrl+N and see if it works or not or else you may have to force flip normal by press W-->lip normal in edit mode.
If it works it would look like the other face on the neck area of your snail.
2.Yeah it's too dense , don't even think about much more complex works.
You did better learn how to do retopology properly or by manual, using tools is not a bad idea but don't depends on them too much.
Ok thanks for your advice! The problem with a lower Poly count is that the "curves" of my snail don't really show. So I would loose so much detail of my sculpt.
Do you have an idea what could be done?
Try to bake a normal map out of the highpoly mesh/snail on the low(er)poly mesh/snail. There is a tutorial on cgcookie which explains this process. It basically tricks the lighting and tells your eye there is a curve, but there isn't one or less than in the high poly version. But if you zoom in, the mesh reveals its true nature!
