Beginners question re: rendering

I have just made a figure in Blender and used the 'Mat Cap' to add a variety of nice looking textures that are clearly visible in the viewport. How do I get any of these to appear in a rendered version of any movies I make or to any Obj form that I export? I'm looking for a 'apply this texture to the mesh' button, but can't see any.

the short answer is you can't easily do that...

    definitely no such button...

matcap is a viewport tool for better visualization...

my suggestion is to follow shader forge and other texture/material tutorials here on Cookie

    hope this helps... :D

OK Thanks for that. Your reply has been very valuable. I felt sure that as it would be such a great advantage to be able to 'make real' the delicious results of applying Matcap, there just must be an easy means to do so. What a pity that isn't true as I'm sure that for many the results of Matcap alone are highly appealing. Oh well, you have saved me tearing my hair out looking for a route that doesn't exist.

PS: On the same subject. Although I managed to add texture images to Suzanne as per the lessons on UV unwrapping etc to the point where she can be exported as an Obj object with all the right colours, I cannot for the life of me find how to get them to appear after rendering. No matter what I try she remains as grey as John Major.
