Painting the inside of an outline

Hello. I recently started doing the color shifting exercise, but I don't know how to paint just the inside of the object outlines. Should I try doing it as precise as I can, or is there a trick to it? I'm using photoshop btw.

Hey @drgnclw , I usually paint a neutral grey silhouette of the object and then, when I paint the other layers like light or color, I can Ctrl+click on the silhouette layer (screenshot below shows where to click) to make that area the selection. That way you can paint on any layer and you'll never go outside the bounds of the object.

When you're finished with that object, press Ctrl+D to deselect everything.
