So I had a file that was linked, I then added a new camera and saved it as a different file name in a different location. Blender then very kindly decided to change the path of the linked character by adding some random folders in there. Thanks Blender.
Anyways, here is the actual file location where the character is linked from :
And here is where Blender has decided it wants to look for it :
How do I change the path back so Blender can find the file to link from. And why the hell is it doing this??
Literally ALL I did was save the file in a different location, surely Blender can keep track of a file path?
Is it a bug or is it me doing something wrong?
Incidentally, I had a similar problem with a completely different project the other day. A character in a that was linked in a scene had gone pink when I opened it up. Blender had lost the textures, but had still managed to link in the rig, model , widgets ect just fine. I opened the master file it was linked from and the character rendered out fine, no issues?? In the end I had to reload the textures into the node editor in the file that had the issue. But surely the whole point in linking is that it brings all this info in and you should never have to touch anything unless you want to make changes in the master.
I hate linking stuff these days because it has become so unpredictable and dangerous to my projects. I would really appreciate some insight into why Blender is in my opinion, just being idiotic....
You can go to outliner and select "blender file" option. With this option, you will see linked files. Select wrong one and with right mouse edit the path. Save and fixed.
To avoid these problems, the best is define a main folder for full project and keep all linked files in subfolders.
Thanks Antonio , I tried that and everytime I do it, Blender just crashes and vanishes :(
