I was around when Wes, and Jonathon first built the first CGCookie, and soon after added Kent Trammell to the mix. Lets just say I had a very rough last decade, but you learn, grow and push forward. Lost my late wife "to brain cancer" a short while back but remarried last May.
Now that I have time, and Im not so burnt-out, maybe I can get to Blender. I will be building a wood custom desk, cat tree, and a canopy bedframe, and want mechanical, animated movement for the mesh models,
My question, is there a way to work with mesh models with such a repetition of units/measurements ?
Thx,
Shane
first, welcome back (it's been a long way for cookie and it sounds like for you as well)...
there is a way to deal with measurement in Blender...
to start the default cube in the default scene is 2 Blender units x 2 B.U. x 2 B. U.
this is assumed as 1 B.U. = 1 M
1. is under the scene tab in properties panel find...
2. the units...
3. the increments and
4. whether blender units, imperial or metric
Blender is precise enough with it's measurements to be able to run a CNC machine, or so it is said...
hope this helps...
:D
Hi Shane, welcome back! Sorry to hear that it's been such a rough decade. We've been quite busy the last few years and hopefully you're enjoying the new site.
When it comes to working with precise measurements, grid snapping is going to be your friend.
With the first two on, you can move in precise increments, and the last one will snap everything to the grid.
Another helpful tip is to enable edge and face info in the viewport Mesh Display properties, so that you can see the exact measurements adjust in real time:
A big thank you guys. The new Dad-in-law has a shop and out in the country. Moving to Central Oregon has been great, besides the smoke from the wildfires. Woodworking has always relaxed me, maybe one day I can work for myself building custom furniture, but who know.
On a more realistic note, my focus will be to build a moble game, hopefull make sells, and then build my own FPS "Something between Halflife & Minecraft" being able to do the game builds as a one person game developer.
