Can't seem to assign the UV grid to Suzanne. Looked everywhere...lol good way to get familiar with the 2.8 layout
Eevee uses the same approach as Cycles which applies textures through the selected image node in the shader editor, not by applying through the UV editor as Blender Render did. In this video starting at 1:10 I briefly talk about the difference.
Note that this course is pretty old and will be re-made for 2.8 in the next month or so (so long as Blender developers keep their schedule and don't delay).
Thanks Kent, yea looking forward to the 2.8 lesson but doing this for lesson pathway in the meantime. The difference in versions is definitely making me work for it lol
