    I'm also having crashes when baking and as a result I can't create a normal map,how do I proceed ?

      I have and so have a lot of other people by the looks of things, I have had to start again basically, when a new file is started and a simple normal map bake test is performed it seems to work fine so it seems that the original file is broken in some way maybe?
