Trickery to animate the texture along the UVs?

At 18:40 you say your going to do some trickery to animate the texture along the UVs.


Then you create a face on top of an existing face by extrude and left click. You then scale on the X.


Why do you do this rather than just extrude inwards after the inner extrude?

    If I'm reading you right, doing that would work for the right side but would be the opposite of what you're looking for on the left side. By scaling on the X you can get both sides at once rather than doing the right and left side separately.
