A useful tip I discovered while following this lesson. Not a question, but I'll post regardless(is this behaviour frowned upon?).
When scaling using ALT + S, you can hit S or hold ALT for "Even Thickness" during the scale operation. It's not perfect in every scenario, but it generally mitigates the need to correct the non-uniform vertices after scaling them.
It does not work when scaling with holding edges, but it does work with the mirror modifier.
