Alienating Users?

Do you think that the key changes are going to alienate existing users? Blender has a steep learning curve already, and now the thought of needing to re-learn basic movements gives me pause.

The last time Blender made a huge leap like this was from 2.49 to 2.5. And a lot of people stuck with 2.49 long after 2.5 was released. I expect a similar thing to happen with 2.79 and 2.8.

But AFAIK no one uses 2.49 anymore and I've never heard of someone quitting Blender because they couldn't accept like the new release. Besides, we always have the option to use older versions of Blender. I still use 2.77a anytime I do a lot of retopology because of one small feature difference.

Transitions are frustrating for any kind of software release. Trust me, I'm going through 2.8 frustrations right now and still use 2.79 for half my projects. But I'm very certain it will be worth transitional pains.
