When I click openGL render animation it doesn't appear to do anything.
You are rendering an image sequence. Frame 8 is an openGL render where as frames 1-7 you have actually 'rendered'.
Just check the folder where you are saving these images. You will see what I mean.
(I can also see the settings on the right and it looks like your file names and location are messy.)
